STATEMENT OF PURPOSEThe American Journal of Geriatric Pharmacotherapy provides peer-reviewed, rapid publication of original reports of recent developments in drug therapy, pharmacoepidemiology, clinical pharmacology, health services research related to drug therapy and pharmaceutical outcomes research in older patients, as well as in-depth review articles on special topics related to drugs and the elderly. The journal serves an international audience of scientists and clinicians in a variety of disciplines and a mixture of research, academic, and clinical practice settings by quickly disseminating research findings. Published articles range from studies exploring new drugs and new indications for existing drugs, to large, multicenter Phase III and IV Trials. The journal also encourages submission of brief reports and commentaries on topics that are timely or provocative. The American Journal of Geriatric Pharmacotherapy expects manuscripts to conform to the Vancouver style, which is described in the Uniform Requirements Submitted to Biomedical Journals (N Engl J Med. 1997;336:309-315 or www.icmje.org). Reports of randomized controlled trials should conform to the CONSORT guidelines (www.consort-statement.org). A diagram illustrating the flow of particpants through the trial is required. All manuscripts are peer reviewed by at least 2 independent researchers for clinical relevance, technical accuracy, methodologic rigor, clarity, and objectivity. The American Journal of Geriatric Pharmacotherapy charges a service fee to allow publication of all eligible manuscripts within 7 weeks of acceptance. The ability to pay the fee does not influence decisions regarding the acceptance of a paper, which is solely dependent on the peer-review process. Fees for papers that are not sponsored by industry, a university grant, or alternative form of support may be waived at the publishers discretion. The American Journal of Geriatric Pharmacotherapy is a member of the Elsevier family of journals, which includes The Lancet®, The American Journal of Medicine®, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Clinical Therapeutics, and more than 1600 other medical and scientific journals. |
